James R. Poorman, 79, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Mount Nittany Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on October 12, 1938, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Roger and Esther (Hoy) Poorman. In 1974, at the Lutheran church in Bellefonte, he married the love of his life, Nancy (Wettstein) Davis, who survives him at home after sharing 44 years of marriage together.
James was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He served in the United States Army Reserves. He worked as a plumber and pipefitter for Local 520 until he retired in 2001.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Tammy Hahn (Randy), Karen Poorman, Jessica Bradley, Tammy Emel (Harry), all of Bellefonte, Deborah Heeman (Robert, Jr.) of Warriors Mark, Michael Davis (Shawna) of AL., Susan Weinheimer (Thomas) of NC.; 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Richard Poorman (Linda), and two sisters, Patricia Richner (Ben) and Susan Blair.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua Breon, and one sister, Nancy Stanton.
James was a member of the Elks Lodge #1094, Bellefonte Moose Lodge #206, American Legion Post 33, and the Valleyview Rod & Gun Club. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the Undine Fire Company in Bellefonte, where he served as Trustee, and the Bellefonte VFW Auxiliary. James treasured spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid fan of Penn State football, Steelers and the Pirates.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 9-11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11am with Pastor Will Osman officiating. Burial will follow at Meyer Cemetery in Bellefonte.
