Obituary for Carol Jeane Shope
Carol Jeane Shope, 79, of Bellefonte, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Centre Care. Born on September 27, 1943, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late John and Lila (Hockenberry) Roan. On November 9, 1963, she married her beloved husband, Kenneth E. Shope, who preceded her in death on August 31, 2000, after sharing over 36 years of marriage together.
Carol was a 1962 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She dedicated her life to taking care of her home and raising her family – a job that she was proud to do!
She is survived by her children, Catrina Clouser (Rick) of Runville, Shellie Selner (James) of Julian, Kenneth Shope, Jr. of Bellefonte, and Debra Fisher of Howard, four grandchildren, Matthew Shope, Chelsea Clouser, Sarah Fisher, and Nicholas Fisher, and six great grandchildren, Carson, Brantley, Wyatt, Logan Shope, Sheydra Tywalk, and Jade Flory. Also surviving are her five sisters, Nellie, Lavera, Laura, Mary, and Rachel “Sue,” and a brother, Russ.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by 10 siblings.
Carol enjoyed working on Sudoku puzzles and cooking. She was also an avid Penn State fan. Her friends and family will fondly remember her stubborn, yet warm and caring personality. Above all, she loved the times that she was able to spend with her family. Her children and grandchildren brought her more joy than anything else in life.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with Jonathan Roan speaking. The graveside service will immediately follow in Meyer Cemetery in Bellefonte.
