Obituary for Dolores M. Nellis
Dolores M. Nellis, 90, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Centre Crest Nursing Home. Born on January 26, 1931 in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late W. Irvin and Evelyn (Watson) Martin.
On May 12, 1951 she married her longtime sweetheart, Robert Nellis, who recently preceded her in death on January 24, 2021, after sharing over 69 years of marriage together.
Dolores is a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. She worked as a Clerk in Centre County Government. Additionally, she worked for her father in his State Farm Insurance office.
She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Jackson, Beth Shutika, and Amy Nellis (partner David Litke), all of Bellefonte; two grandchildren, Lauren Fisher (Paul) of Howard, and Ethan Shutika (Jessica) of Yeagertown, and one great grandson, Waylon Fisher. Also surviving is one brother, William Martin, of Runville.
Dolores was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bellefonte. Since childhood, she has always loved to sing. She sang in an orchestra while still in high school, in the church choir for over 50 years, at weddings, funerals, opening of the Benner Elementary School, and during the Veteran’s Day celebration each year, on the steps of the Court House. She loved antiques and was a dealer with her husband for many years. They also operated a Bed and Breakfast on Linn Street.
Her love for her family and country was amazing. She will be remembered as a sweet, kind, loving, and caring person with a great voice, and contagious laugh and wit.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte at 203 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
