Obituary for Donald "Buck" R. Hillard

Donald “Buck” R. Hillard, 89, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Born on January 13, 1933, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Martin and Sylvia (Steer) Hillard.

Buck was a 1951 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He worked as a machinist for Sutton Engineering from 1951 until his retirement in 1995, after 43.5 years of service. During his time with Sutton, he was able to travel the country to assemble the machines that he helped to manufacture. While working for Sutton, he was also a partner in Ramish & Hillard Machine Shop.

He is survived by his four daughters, Donna Hillard of Bellefonte, Pamela Byron (Steven) of Bellefonte, Sandra Tressler of Georgia, Cindy Hagerman of Michigan, and two sons, Robin Hillard (Patricia) of Bellefonte and Donald Hillard, Jr. (Melinda) of Mechanicsburg, and many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Penny Hillard, one grandson, Robin Hillard, Jr., a brother, Ralph “Scoop” Hillard, and a sister, Alice Williams.

Buck was a member of the Bellefonte Moose Lodge #206, Undine Fire Company, Bellefonte Elks Lodge #1094, American Legion Club #33, the VFW Post #1600 in Bellefonte, and the Bald Eagle Cottage. He loved just about anything that kept him outdoors, but especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to camp. He looked forward to the fishing trips that he would take to Canada. Even at home, he liked being outside, whether he was sitting on his back porch watching the birds and feeding all of the animals, or spending some of his time in his vegetable garden.

There will be a public viewing held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M., at the funeral home, with Deacon Thomas Boldin officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Meyer Cemetery in Bellefonte.
