Edward J. McNichol, 93, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 6, 2021. He was born in Bellefonte on August 6, 1927, to the late John McNichol and Julia (McClellan) McNichol.
On March 5, 1946, he married the love of his life, Norma Hopple. He is survived by three daughters: Barbara Catherman of Pleasant Gap, Erin Kristie Matson (Joe) of Philipsburg, and Mary Kate Washburn (Tom) of Pine, Colorado. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Hopple) McNichol and his daughter, Vickie Sellers.
During World War II, Ed was a member of the United States Constabulary, the Circle C Cowboys stationed in Germany. In his teen years, he delivered bread and baked goods to homes around the Bellefonte area. He worked in the mines at Warner Company and then retired after many years of service from the State Correctional Institute at Rockview and from delivering oil for Jodon Oil Company.
He looked forward to family outings from the mountains of Slate Run to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, or Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. One thing he most enjoyed was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
