Obituary for Edwin Rollin Sidwell

Edwin Rollin Sidwell, 88, of Bellefonte, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home. Born on July 6, 1935, in Narberth, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Rollin Wilson and Edith (Stevens) Sidwell.

Ed was a 1954 graduate of Lower Merion High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Penn State in 1958, where he was a member of the 1958 NCAA Champion Gymnastics Team. After college, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant, in Iceland, from August 1958 until he was honorably discharged in February 1961. He spent 14 years working for Monroe, The Calculator Co., before starting his own business, Sidwell Business Machines, until his retirement.

He is survived by his children, Todd Sidwell (Amy) of Pittsburgh, and Robin Sidwell of Granby, Connecticut, daughter-in-law, Darlene Sidwell of Bellefonte, and three granddaughters, Olivia and Elizabeth Sidwell, of Pittsburgh, and Serena Sidwell of Bellefonte. Also surviving is a sister, Deborah Bautch of Houston, Texas.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a son, Gary E. Sidwell, on February 7, 2022.

Ed was an active member of the alumni leadership for Sigma Nu Fraternity. He announced Penn State Gymnastics meets for 38 years and was President of the Men’s Gymnastics Booster Club. Additionally, he served on the HUB-Robeson Cultural Center Advisory Board and ran the Centre County’s Junior Miss Program for 38 years. Ed served on the Board of Directors for more than 25 years for Nittany Cooperative, Inc. and as the secretary for the Lion Fraternity Alumni Association. He also volunteered for the annual Centre PA 4th Fest fireworks show for several years.

Ed loved and enjoyed his family and pets, Shasta, Haley, Reebok, Scootie, and Midnight. He enjoyed photography, playing his guitar, listening to country western music, tinkering with his car and collecting “bears.” He was an avid Penn State fan and loved the Buffalo Run Valley and lived there following his discharge from the Air Force until he had recently moved to the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte.
