Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" E. Nastase

Elizabeth “Betty” E. Nastase, 97, of Bellefonte, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Centre Care in Bellefonte. Born on November 18, 1925, in Drifiting, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Anna Marie (Josephson) Swanson. In 1946, she married her beloved husband, Anthony “Tony” O. Nastase, who preceded her in death on December 25, 1988, after sharing 42 years of marriage together.

Betty was a graduate of Cooper Township High School. She worked as a bank teller, starting her career at People’s Bank, until the name was changed to Omega. She remained in the banking industry for 35 years until her retirement in 1995.

She is survived by her two sons, Anthony Nastase (Judy), and Samuel Nastase (Marcia), both of Bellefonte, two grandchildren, Julie Nastase and Gina Scott (Mike), and three great grandchildren, Carter Fischer, Ella Harpster, and Sophia Scott. Also surviving is a sister, Phyllis Shaw of Mississippi.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Betty was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and a Bible study group with her friends in Howard.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. High Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellefonte. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
