Obituary for Ellen J. Tate

Ellen J. Tate, 74, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Born on January 19, 1948, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Mina Jane Burns. On August 27, 1966, she married her beloved husband, Robert E. Tate, who predeceased her on September 24, 2016, after sharing over 50 years of marriage together.

Ellen was a 1965 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She dedicated her life to taking care of her home and raising her family – jobs that she took great pride in doing.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. Tate, Jr. (Christine), four grandchildren: Derek Stoliker, Amber Baer, Danielle Packer, and Bryan “Tater” Tate, and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Susan E. Packer, and a sister, Janet Wagner.

Ellen enjoyed shopping on QVC. She also loved to cook and treasured the time that she spent with her family. For the past eight years, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, allowing them to care for her during her times of need. They were also able to use that time to create memories that will be cherished for years to come.

A casual gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M., at the home of her son, 710 Nittany Valley Drive, Bellefonte. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
