George “Scat” M. Brown, Jr., 94, of Bellefonte, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 18, 2022. Born on July 22, 1927, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late George M. Brown, Sr., and Helen L. (Shultz) Brown.
George graduated from Bellefonte High School, Class of 1945; enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Houston. George worked at Cerro Metal for 27 years pricing rod shipments after which he became the Business Manager for Bellefonte Area School District for 22 years before retiring.
George is survived by his wife, Linda (Leathers) Brown, a son, David Corl, and a granddaughter, Amber Corl, a brother, Richard “Dick” Brown (Janet), two sisters-in-law, Louise Brown Mundy and Renee Brown, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Rick and Claudia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Russell.
George was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher for several years and was chairman of the building committee, served on the Board of Trustees, and the finance committee. He played on the Bellefonte fast pitch softball team and was chairman of the Pleasant Gap Rotary Club, chairman of the Spring-Benner-Walker Sewer Authority, and secretary/treasurer for the Undine Fire Co. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
