Obituary for Gregory Alan Funk

Gregory Alan Funk, 69, of Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey. Born on October 4, 1952, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Roy and Hazel (Harter) Funk.

Greg was a 1970 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University and continued his studies at Temple University. He was a superb chef and a magnificent floral designer. He was a food historian and educator at Wyck Historic House and Garden in Philadelphia, and a delightful guide at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

He is survived by his partner of 26 years, Bill Sauder, of New Jersey, and a sister, Regina Mix, of Bellefonte, and a niece, April Mix, and nephew, Travis Quici.

Greg enjoyed many hobbies over the years. He collected many cookbooks and was an award-winning quilt maker. His creative and vibrant personality shined through in anything that he was doing. Greg never wanted to stop learning, and he made a point to live his life to the absolute fullest! He was a loving partner and amazing son, brother, uncle, and friend. His friends and family will remember his kind and loving soul, and his witty sense of humor.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, from 10-11 a.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Greg’s memory to the Wyck Historic House and Garden, 6026 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144.
