Heidi Beth Zwyghuizen-Long, 56, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Born in Tsuyazaki, Japan, on January 20, 1967, she was the daughter of the Rev. John Zwyghuizen and Helene (Bosch) Zwyghuizen, who are both surviving at their home in Zeeland, Michigan. On June 26, 2015, she married her beloved husband, Bradley Long, who survives her at home in Bellefonte.
Heidi attended the University of Michigan, where she earned her master’s degree in social work. She dedicated her life to working in the field of mental health. She was a licensed clinical social worker specializing in mental health. From 1997 until 2017, she worked for Community Mental Health of Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, before moving to Pennsylvania. After moving, she took a position in 2018 at Keystone Counseling and Evaluation Services in Lock Haven, where she remained until 2022.
In addition to her husband, Bradley, and parents, Rev. John and Helene, she is survived by two sisters, Ardith Doorenbos (Keith), and Jayne French (Michael), and a brother, Edward Zwyghuizen (Melanie). Also surviving are 13 nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law, Eric Long (Michelle).
Heidi was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Jacksonville. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and was a longtime member of the Sierra Club.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 4135 Jacksonville Road, Jacksonville, PA, with Rev. Paul Knappenberger officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte. A second memorial service will be held in Michigan at a later to be determined date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a local library in Heidi’s name.
