Howard S. Fishel, 89, of Bellefonte, formerly of Gallitzin, passed away at home on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Born on November 1, 1932, in Diamondville, he was the son of the late Cloyd E. and Lillian (Stephens) Fishel. On October 15, 1962, he married his beloved wife, Pearl A. (Nickol) Fishel, who preceded him in death on June 24, 2018, after sharing over 55 years of marriage together.

Howard attended school at Cresson Joint High School, where he was the starting fullback, and graduated from the Fork Union Military Academy in 1953. He was drafted for service in the United States Army during the Korean War and served as a Military Police Officer. After his military service, he played football at William and Mary University. After his time in the service, he worked as a Transportation Specialist for the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home for 25 years until his retirement in 2003.

He is survived by his three children, Christian D. Fishel of Bellefonte, Timothy H. Fishel (Tracy) of Syracuse, New York, and Eric S. Fishel of Blawnox, Pennsylvania, and five grandchildren, Steven, Vanessa, Christian, Jr., Samantha, and Garrett. Also surviving is a brother, Gregory Fishel of Indianapolis, Indiana.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Edward, and Larry, and four sisters, Erlamon, Delores, Yolanda, and Judy.

Howard was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church of Lilly, Pennsylvania. He was a lover of the outdoors and nature, and a fitness enthusiast, attending the Summit Athletic Club regularly. He was an avid sports fan, especially Penn State Football and Wrestling, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, and being his grandchildren’s #1 fan!

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
