James Curtis Thompson, Jr., 83, of Bellefonte, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Born on October 14, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late James Curtis Thompson, Sr., and Pauline (Flannigan) Thompson. On August 22, 1970, he married his beloved wife, Lois (Holderman) Thompson, who preceded him in death on June 19, 2006, after sharing over 35 years of marriage together.

James worked for PennDOT as a heavy equipment operator for 35 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Eleanor Thompson, and one son, Mark Thompson, both of Bellefonte. Also surviving is one brother, Donald Thompson (Ann), and one sister, Susan Patterson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Thompson, on January 18, 1982.

James was a member of the American Legion Post 245 in State College. He enjoyed getting together with his classmates from the Class of 1957 to catch up and eat breakfast. He was an animal lover, and especially enjoyed watching and feeding his squirrels and groundhogs that would make their way to his yard. He also enjoyed working puzzles in his spare time. More than anything, James treasured the time that he was able to spend with his family. He leaves them with a lifetime of priceless memories that they will always hold near to their hearts.

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of James to the Home Nursing Agency Foundation at 201 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601.
