Obituary for Janet E. Houser

Janet E. Houser, 70, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Born on September 6, 1952, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ellen (Grove) Walters. In 1970, she married her beloved husband, Ronald Andrew Houser, who survives at home after sharing over 52 years of marriage together.

Janet was a 1970 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She worked in Education and as a Youth Coordinator for American Philatelic Society for 29 years until her retirement in 2018.

In addition to her husband, Ronald, she is survived by their three children, Norman Houser of Bellefonte, Zechariah Houser (Jen) of Chicago, Illinois, and Tina Keen (Todd) of Coatesville, and three grandchildren, Sarah, William, and Brianna. Also surviving are her five siblings, Daniel Walters of Bellefonte, John Walters (Mary) of Julian, Thelma Brodzina of Warriors Mark, Doris Wilson (John) of Tyrone, and Ruth Vonada of Spring Mills, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James.

Janet was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Locally, she was involved with Logan Grange, and a member of the County, State, and National Granges. Janet tented with her parents at the Centre County Grange Fair Encampment until the late 1970s and continued their tradition with her own family when she was able to attain a tent of her own. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and doing needle work. She especially looked forward to traveling, and spending time with her family. She was able to visit all the lower 48 states over the years.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 10 A.M. until 12 P.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. A Grange Service will begin at 11:50 A.M., with funeral services to immediately follow, with Pastor Doug Conway officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
