Obituary for Joanne Sellers King
Joanne Sellers King, 89, of Bellefonte, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. Born on August 4, 1933, in Milesburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Hassinger) Sellers. On February 4, 1954, she married her beloved husband, Richard Allen King, who preceded her in death on March 5, 2016, after sharing over 62 years of marriage together.
Joanne was a 1951 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She worked as a secretary for a local Bellefonte attorney, before taking a secretarial position for the Centre County Government Offices. She retired after 20 years of service.
She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth King of Bellevue, Washington, Lesley Garcia (Dr. Gerald Garcia) of Erie, and Brandon King (Mary) of Bellefonte; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Whitbeck (Timothy), Graham Garcia (Kristina), and Peter Scott, and four great grandchildren, Lucas Donald, Hannah Joy, Naomi Joanne, and Sarah Grace Whitbeck.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, James Sellers, Robert Sellers, Wilma Heiser, Margaret Orndorf, and a great grandchild, Elisabeth Jean Whitbeck.
Joanne was always a faithful and active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Over the years, she shared responsibilities for numerous events and activities with United Methodist Women. Additionally, she was a member of the Bellefonte Kiwanis Club and Bellefonte Senior Club. She was a docent at the Bellefonte Museum as well as assisting in the organization of the Victorian Christmas Children’s Tea. Over the years, she often enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. More than anything, she loved the time that she was able to spend with her family and friends.
There will be a public viewing held on Monday, March 27, 2023, from 5-7:00 P.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. An additional viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 9:30-11:00 A.M., at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11 A.M., at the church, with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanne’s memory to Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823, or to the Activities Department at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home, 500 Front Street, PO Box 8969, Milesburg, PA 16853 with “In Memory of Joanne King – Activities Department” noted on the memo line.
The King family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home for their loving care and kindness, and to church family at Faith United Methodist Church for their numerous visits, cards, and phone calls to Joanne over the past several years.
