Obituary for John O. Yearick

John O. Yearick, 92, of Bellefonte, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Centre Care. Born on August 15, 1930, in Snydertown, he was the son of the late Russell and Dorothy (Dorman) Yearick. On July 7, 1972, at the Axemann Church, he married Joanne E. (Rummel) Yearick, who survives at home after sharing nearly 51 years of marriage together.

John was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 1951 until he was honorably discharged in October 1954. He retired on March 5, 1993, from Cerro Brass, as assistant foreman, after 38 years of service.

In addition to his wife, Joanne, he is survived by six children, John O. Yearick, Jr. (Marge) of Bellefonte, Raymond A. Yearick of Monroe, North Carolina, Russell B. Yearick (Amy) of Boalsburg, Deborah Matis (Mike) of Hummelstown, Paula Dreibelbis of Duluth, Georgia, and James A. McGovern of Pleasant Gap; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by brothers, Donald R. “Bob” Yearick, Charles R. Yearick, and Walter E. Yearick, and sisters, Mildred Dale, and Miriam Immel; he was the last of his generation.

John was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially going hunting and fishing.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 11 A.M. until 12 P.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. The funeral service will follow, beginning at 12 P.M., at the funeral home, with Rev. Bob Dornan officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
