Obituary for Joy Ann Hood
Joy Ann Hood (80), of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2022.
Joy was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania on April 24, 1941, and was the daughter of William and Viola (Crowell) Penn. She graduated from the Barnesboro/Spangler High School and continued her education at Altoona Business School. She married and raised her family in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania and then relocated to Oklahoma, where she has resided the last 36 years, living life to the fullest.
Joy is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Hood, who passed in 1970. She will be laid to rest by his side. She is also preceded in death by her parents and brother (William Penn).
She is survived by her siblings Darlene Churan, Randy Penn (Diana) and Lorraine Simmons (Larry). She is also survived by her sons Brian Hood, married to Valerie (Rayba) of Emeigh, PA and Timothy Hood, married to Stacie (Moore) of Jones, OK. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Her newest great-grand daughter was given her namesake: Carmella Joy. She is also survived by other family and many friends.
Joy “Mom”” Gram” had a big heart and loved her family and friends. She loved reminiscing and telling stories, and her late husband, Robert, lived on in the memories she shared regularly over the years. She enjoyed traveling and bringing home pictures and trinkets from her trips all over the world. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards with her friends, and was devoted to her Church, St. James the Greater where she was a lector.
Funeral services will be held in Oklahoma City, followed by viewing, services and burial in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Family and friends of Oklahoma will be received at the John Ireland Funeral Home, Oklahoma City on Thursday, January 6, 2022, between 1:00pm to 8:30pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. James the Greater on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11am. Father Pruitt will be officiating.
There will be a public viewing held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 10am until 11:45am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. The funeral mass will immediately follow at 12:00pm, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 Bishop Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
