Obituary for Kathleen I. Walker

Kathleen I. Walker, 95, of Valley View, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Born on June 21, 1925, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Ione and Robert Hillard. Kathleen was raised by her grandparents, Albert and Arvilla Corman. She married Gregg H. Walker, who preceded her in death on March 21, 1988.

Kathleen worked in the retail business in Bellefonte for Turners, Brown’s Boot Shop, and Marrara’s. She insisted on preparing Sunday dinners for her children; nothing gave her more pleasure than to have them all gathered around her dining table. Her family grew so much that her Christmas, Easter, and New Year’s Day dinners had a total of 27 gathered around three tables in three different rooms of her home. Kathleen loved collecting and displaying mice which grew in numbers greater than you can imagine.

Kathleen was a lifelong member of the Valley View United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Gary Walker (Ann) of Pleasant Gap, and two daughters, Kaye Winters (Don) of State College, and Penny Martella (Sam) of Port Matilda. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Traci Martz (Timothy), Patrick Walker (Heather), Tiffany Moyer (Matt), Brett Evock (Mindy), and Kristy Klein (Chris); seven great grandchildren, Ashley Pearce (Ben), Brandon Martz (Krysta), Carlie Evock, Alex Ammerman, Jayde Evock, Hunter Walker, and Hayden Walker; and seven great great grandchildren, Grace, Noah, Hailey, Jayla, Kaylyn, Parker, and Eli. Also surviving is her sister, Eunice Hillard of Valley View.

Along with her parents, grandparents, and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Merrill Hillard and Richard Hillard.

We also must mention her two very good friends, they called themselves ‘The Three Crows’, Verna (Bun) Corman (deceased), and Ethel (Sis) Ishler. They were all childhood friends who never grew apart. And, of course, her special friend, Pat McMurtrie.

There will be a public viewing held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 10-11am, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11am with Pastor Lynn Wilcox officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at Meyer Cemetery.
