Obituary for Lois J. (Mann) Lucas

Lois J. (Mann) Lucas, 88, of Bellefonte, went to her Heavenly home to meet her Lord and Savior, and reunite with her family members on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. She had been a resident there since 2020. Born on April 19, 1934, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Mary (Bathurst) Brown, on April 19, 1934.

On October 12, 1957, she married Gerald “Pie” L. Mann. Together, they raised three sons, and her stepdaughter. Pie preceded her in death in October of 1994. On July 11, 1998, she remarried Alan Lucas, who also preceded her in death in May of 2008.

Lois worked as a LPN at the Bellefonte Hospital from 1953 until 1958, and then again from 1960 until 1962. In 1979, she started work at Centre Crest and worked there until her retirement in 2002.

She is survived by her three sons, Edward Mann (Nanette) of Lewistown, Douglas Mann (Rhonda) of Snow Shoe, and Michael Mann (Suzanne) of Milesburg, stepchildren, Nancy Hunter (Ted) of Bellefonte, Scott Lucas, Sherry Breon, both of Milesburg, Thomas Lucas of State College, and Dianne Meckley of Centre Hall; nine grandchildren: Casey Mann of Pleasant Gap, Trevor Morgan of Snow Shoe, Heidi Hockenberry (Brad) of Port Matilda, Alissa Toner (J.R.) of Bellefonte, Heather Mann of State College, Kristal Slemons (Darren) of Lewistown, Zachary Sayers of Milesburg, Bruce Mann (Miranda) of Lewistown, and Michael Mann of Wilmington, North Carolina; and 11 step grandchildren: Gregory Hunter (Kim) of Philipsburg, Kim Hunter Laird (Richard) of Milesburg, Sarah Fye (Jordon) of Lewistown, Benjamin Lucas of Snow Shoe, Angela King of Milesburg, Heather King of Milesburg, Christopher Showers of Bellefonte, Lucas Showers (Chelsea) of Bellefonte, Brent Meckley (Lindsay) of Bellefonte, Brandy Meckley, and Braden Meckley, both of Centre Hall; 18 great grandchildren, with one expected in September, and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister-in-laws, Sylvia Brown (Cole), Darlene Brown (McCloskey), both of Watsontown.

In addition to her first and second husband, and parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Robert Brown Watsontown, Kenneth (Kay Houtz) Brown Elimsport, and Thomas Brown Watsontown. Lois was the last of her immediate family.

Lois was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Additionally, she was a member of the VFW Post 1600 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Undines Fire Company. Lois was known to be the life of the party. Even through her battle with dementia, she maintained a sense of humor and always tried to make others laugh. She dearly loved her family and deeply cared for others all throughout her life.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11 A.M., at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Dornan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Lois to Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. Checks should be made out to EVPCH Memorial Garden Fund and sent to PO Box 8969, Milesburg, PA 16853. Please include Lois Lucas on the memo line.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home for the love and compassion that they showed to our loving mother throughout her stay, and a special thanks also to the staff of Grane Hospice, especially Rebecca Gaylord, her hospice nurse.
