Obituary for Lowell T. Krape

Lowell T. Krape, 91, of Bellefonte, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Juniper Village in State College. Born on October 18, 1930, in Zion, he was the son of the late Ward C. and Florence (Heltman) Krape. On August 1, 1953, he married his beloved wife, Nancy K. (Kustanbaurter) Krape, who survives at home after sharing over 68 years of marriage together.

Lowell was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He served in the United States Army from 1954 until he was honorably discharged in 1956, during the Korean Conflict. After his time in the service, he worked as a Dairyman for Rockview for several years until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by their three children, Thomas A. Krape, Curtis L. Krape, and Karen A. Brooks, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Ethel Beigthol, and his beloved canine companion, Fregie.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Emma Miller, Jean Benford, Sara Pletcher, and Mary Lois Rine, two brothers, William Allan Painter Krape (infant), and Paul Robert Krape, and a grandson, Clark Brooks.

Lowell was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Hublersburg. Additionally, he was a member of the Bellefonte Elks Lodge #1094, the Pleasant Gap Fire Company, and the Walker Township Fire Company. Over the years, he served on the Walker Township Water Association, the sewer authorities for Spring Township, Benner Township, and Walker Township, and the Centre County Planning Commission. Lowell was an adored candy maker among his friends and family. His loved ones would look forward to the treats that he would pass out around the holidays. Woodworking was always a passion – making countless kitchen utensils, cutting boards, and furniture over the years – often giving them away as gifts. More than anything, he loved working in his vegetable garden. He took immense pride in his garden, and all the canned foods that he was able to supply to his family and friends over the years.

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lowell’s memory to the Pleasant Gap Fire Company #1, 475 Robinson Lane, Pleasant Gap, PA 16823, or to the Walker Township Fire Company, PO Box 110, Mingoville, PA 16856.
