Obituary for Margaret A. Shivery

Margaret Ann Shivery, 76, of Mill Hall, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Born on March 30, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Gertrude (Myers) Grubb.

Margaret grew up in the Village of Coleville and Bald Eagle Area. She was a 1964 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She worked as an Insurance Sales Agent for many years until her retirement. She decided to go back to school, graduating from Lock Haven University with her bachelor’s degree in 2017.

She is survived by her two daughters, Crystal Shivery of South Williamsport, and Melanie Shivery Sullenberger (George) of Shermans Dale, PA. Also surviving are two brothers, Nelson Grubb (Connie) of Coleville, and Gary Grubb (Connie) of Bellefonte.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard Grubb, and stepsister, Janice Blair.

She visited many churches in the area including, Coleville Wesleyan Church, United Church of Christ in Jacksonville, and Laurel Run Church. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed cruises. She was able to visit many of the different states over the years, as well as numerous countries.

Margaret enjoyed volunteering at orphanages in Europe, to include Romania and Poland, and the U.S. in Minnesota, Montana, and West Virginia. Locally, she also enjoyed volunteering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and for community events and loved going to the Clinton County Fair and performing with her keyboard at the Mill Hall Follies. She loved to be outdoors, specifically trout fishing. Margaret was an avid reader, especially books relating to the Holocaust, and anything written by Frank McCourt. She was very proud of her Irish heritage from her mother and Grandmother Louise Delany’s side of the family.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10-11 A.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. The memorial service will immediately follow, beginning at 11 A.M., with Pastor Paula Smith officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
