Obituary for Marjorie L. Shawley Lyons
Marjie Lucille Shawley Lyons, 86, of Milesburg, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on April 15, 1936, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Louise (Stanley) Dunlap.
Marjie was a 1954 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She worked in the cafeteria at Bald Eagle Area High School for 30 years until her retirement. In addition to her responsibilities in the cafeteria, she would cook the meals for the football camps during the summer months.
She is survived by her two sons, William “Bill” T. Shawley, III (Linda) of Milesburg, and Donald Shawley (Cindy) of Florida, and three grandchildren, Brandon Shawley, Natasha Shawley, and Janess Jones. Also surviving is a sister, Barbara Webster (Frank) of Bellefonte, and brothers, Sam Dunlap (Jean) of Florida, and Tom Furry (Barbara) of Reading, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, William T. Shawley, Jr., and a brother, Marlin “Bud” J. Dunlap.
Marjie enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made numerous blankets over the years and gave them to family and friends. She was always the biggest supporter of her children and grandchildren, and loved attending any of the sporting events that they were involved in. Later, she would often volunteer to work in the concession stands for the football games.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Marjie to the Erythromelalgia Association, 200 Old Castle Lane, Wallingford, PA 19086.
