Marjorie A. Zeleznick, 89, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Friday, July 22, 2022. Born on October 4, 1932, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel (Letterman) Rockey. On January 2, 1954, she married her loving husband, John W. Zeleznick, who survives at home after sharing more than 68 years of marriage together.
Marjorie was a 1950 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She spent several years working in the dining service department at Penn State before taking a position as a bindery worker in the Business Service Department for 24 years until her retirement in 1993.
In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by their three children, John Zeleznick, Jr. of McKees Rock, Tom Zeleznick, and Linda Poorman, both of Bellefonte; five grandchildren, Eric Fura of San Francisco, Scott Fura (Maribeth) of Boalsburg, Connor Poorman of Bellefonte, Adam DiCarlo, and Kari Kirkpatrick, and three great grandchildren, Eliza, Theo, and Sylvie Fura, all of Boalsburg. Also surviving are two sisters, Sandra Robinson, and Bonnie Martin, and one brother, Stanley Rockey.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, Maudella Bierly, Barbara DeFurio, Janet Slavin, Peggy Roach, and Delores Rockey, and six brothers, Junior Lee, Elmer “Jack,” Styrl, Robert “Bob,” Richard “Dick,” and Dave.
Marjorie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. In her earlier years she enjoyed playing cards and bowling on the women’s league that was sponsored by John’s barber shop. Affectionately referred to as “Honey Bee” by her adoring husband, John, she and John enjoyed traveling throughout their years together, and would often travel to different states to attend Navy Ship Reunions. For 19 years, they enjoyed being “snowbirds” for the winters in Florida. More than anything, she loved when she was able to spend time with her grandchildren.
There will be a public viewing held on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 9-10 A.M., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 A.M., at the church, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
