Obituary for Mary Ellen Byers
Mary Ellen Byers, 82, of Bellefonte, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Eagle Valley Personal Care in Milesburg. Born on January 30, 1939 in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Pearl (Corman) Breon. On November 26, 1958 she married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Dean Byers, who survives her at home after sharing over 62 years of marriage together.
Mary was a 1957 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She retired from McLanahan’s Drug Store after over 40 years of service.
In addition to her husband, Dick, she is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Newman (Jim), and Amy Beck (John), two grandchildren, Jeremy Beck, and Josh Beck (Alisha), and great grandchild, Jake Beck. Also surviving is a sister, Bonnie Cain, one brother, Rick Breon (Susan), brother-in-law, William McVicker, and sister-in-law, Janet Breon.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis Joann Miller and husband Ralph, Yvonne Toots Poorman and husband Robert, and Darlene McVicker, and two brothers, Loren and Donnie, and brother-in-law, James Cain.
Her two favorite things were the Grange Fair and her family. She also enjoyed reading, going to garage sales, trips to Ocean City, New Jersey, Penn State football tailgates, and bowl game parties. In her younger years, she enjoyed skating at Hecla Park and bowling.
There will be a public graveside service held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 11:30am, at Meyer Cemetery in Bellefonte, with Pastor Carl Campbell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Eagle Valley Personal Care and 365 Hospice for the devotion and gentle care that they provided to Mary during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania at 900 S. Arlington Avenue, Suite 134A, Harrisburg, PA 17109, or to the American Diabetes Association by mailing a check to American Diabetes Association, Attn: Service Center, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
