Obituary for Mary Jane Holderman

Mary Jane Holderman, 90, of Bellefonte, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at Harmony in State College. Born on August 7, 1932, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Earl J. and Nellie Frances (Rumberger) Gentzel. On February 16, 1952, during a blizzard in Mexico, Pennsylvania, she married the love of her life, Marlin David Holderman, who preceded her in death on April 1, 2022, after sharing more than 70 years of marriage together.

Jane was a 1950 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She worked at Penn State as an Administrative Assistant in the Alumni Office until her retirement. However, she devoted most of her time to raising their five daughters and taking care of the home, a role that she was most proud of.

She is survived by her five daughters: Marla Hosterman (Nevin) of Howard, Debra Wilikins (Drew) of Danville, California, Vicki Blazer of Port Matilda, Terri Dreswick (John) of Arlington, Virginia, and Kathy Hooven (Daniel) of Mechanicsburg, nine grandchildren: Zachary Blazer (fiancée Sarah Leitzinger), Samantha Blazer, Morgann McAfee (Brian), Ross Hoy (fiancée Samantha Seese), Elizabeth Dreswick Halstead (Tyler), Kyle Hooven, Ryan Hooven, Emma Hooven, and Ray Hosterman, and six great grandchildren: Avery, Caden, Miles, Mavalynn, McKenzie, and Campbell.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Copeland.

Jane was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. When she wasn’t busy with her daughters, she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. More than anything, she treasured the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whether she was able to attend their activities in person or just follow along with them by the photos and videos that were shared, her grandchildren could always count on her to be their loudest cheerleader in anything they were involved in. A devoted mother, adoring Grammy, and loyal friend to many, Jane leaves behind countless memories that her loved ones will forever cherish.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, from 10-11 A.M., at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11 A.M. with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38108, or by going to www.stjude.org/donate or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at www.alzfdn.org.
