Nancy Jane Stetler, 88, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Centre Care. Born on July 6, 1935, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Helen I. (Eckley) Taylor. She was married to her beloved husband, Larry G. Stetler, who preceded her in death in December of 1982, after sharing 17 years of marriage together.
Nancy was a 1952 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Budget Department for Penn State for 20 years until her retirement in 1992. During her time of employment at Penn State, she was awarded the Outstanding Staff Member Award for Excellence in Research Support and the Charles L. Hosler Award for Extraordinary Contributions to Research and Scholarly Productivity. After retirement, she continued to serve for several years in similar capacities for the Rush Township Supervisor, and at the Mount Nittany Surgical Center and Southern Illinois University.
She is survived by her son, Zane Stetler of Newton, North Carolina, grandchildren, Rachel Stetler, Sara Bacher, and Lauren Stetler, and great grandchildren, Jackson, and Sophie Bacher. Also surviving are her brothers, Denny Taylor, John Taylor, both of Bellefonte, and James Taylor of West Decatur.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Tracy Stetler on March 11, 1974.
Nancy was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. She was lovingly known as “Mom” to many over the years. Regardless of how well she knew you, if she met you, it was a guarantee that a card would show up on your birthday! A loving mother, caring sister, adoring grandmother, and loyal friend, she leaves behind countless memories that her loved ones will continue to cherish.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Centre County Memorial Park in State College. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
