Obituary for Paul E. Davidson

Paul E. Davidson, 98, of Runville, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Born on June 15, 1924, in Runville, he was the son of the late Harold Davidson, Sr. and Stella (Markle) Davidson. On June 5, 1954, at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Clarence, he married his beloved wife, Mary Jane ”Janie” (Basalla) Davidson, who survives at home after sharing 68 years of marriage together.

Paul attended Central City Schools. In 1948, with two brothers, he started their family owned and operated trucking company, Davidson Brothers, Inc., where he remained an owner for 75 years.

In addition to his wife, Janie, he is survived by his son, Randy Davidson (Dawn) of Runville, two grandchildren, Andrew Davidson of Bellefonte, and Lauryn Bostdorf (Cory) of Milesburg, and one great grandchild one the way. Also surviving is a brother, Eugene Davidson of Runville.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Harold Davidson, Jr. and Vera Miller.

Paul was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. Additionally, he was a member of the Bellefonte Masonic Lodge. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed taking care of his yard, and continued to do so until he was 95 years old. He also looked forward to spending time at his camp on Ridge Road, and especially loved the numerous hunting trips to various locations that he was able to take with his son, including Saskatchewan, Canada for whitetail, and British Columbia for moose and elk. He and his wife, Mary Jane, also loved their winters in Sarasota, Florida, where he kept himself busy playing golf and going fishing.

There will be a public viewing held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte, with a Wake Service to immediately follow the viewing. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will follow the service in Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
