Ru Michael Sabre, 80, of Pleasant Gap, passed away at home on Thursday, December 29, 2022. Born on November 12, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Daniel Rodin and Margaret (Dauerbach) Sabre.
A beloved husband, friend, and father, he is survived by his wife, Jeannette, and children, Mara Sabre May (Paul) of Onalaska, WI, Katherine Codding-Sabre of Greensboro, NC, and Mercer Johnstone Sabre of State College. His siblings are Adrian D. Sabre and Lynnette Sabre Hubert (deceased).
Ru graduated from Hobart College, Phi Beta Kappa, and earned degrees at Duke University (M.A. Philosophy), and The Pennsylvania State University (Ph.D. Community Systems Planning and Development, and Masters in Applied Mathematics). He worked in Penn State’s College of Agriculture and taught at Guilford College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
His passionate interest in the thought of Charles Sanders Peirce and the logic of semeiosis led to a writing life and publishing in various journals, most recently in Semiotica. He loved drawing, playing the classical guitar, and landscaping his home.
Ru was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in State College. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 1:30 PM, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Avenue, State College. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
