Obituary for Samuel T. Brezler

Samuel T. Brezler, 76, of Bellefonte, passed away surrounded by family in the comfort of his home on Monday, February 13, 2023. Born on May 26, 1946, in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Gilbert Hart and Edith Naomi (Thomas) Brezler. On June 13, 1970, in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, he married his beloved wife, Lucy (Moseri) Brezler, who survives at home after sharing over 52 years of marriage together.

Samuel was a 1964 graduate of York Catholic High School during which he earned Eagle Scout rank. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from June 24, 1964, until he was honorably discharged on December 24, 1968. He spent two of his years in the service stationed overseas during the Vietnam War. During his service he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for his heroic deeds in Vietnam. After his time in the Air Force, he worked for Rockview where he went on to become one of the founding members of the PA State Corrections Officers Association (PSCOA). He fully retired in 2010.

In addition to his wife, Lucy, he is survived by their four children, Steven Brezler, Paula Brezler, Donald Brezler (Jennifer L.), and Thomas Brezler (Jennifer A.), and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Gabrielle, Frederick, Elizabeth and Elliott. Also surviving are his siblings, Gilbert Brezler (Rosalie), Bonnie Fetrow (Doug), Julia Stewart (Mike-deceased), Pandora Brickner (George), Theresa Fenstermacher (Jack), Mike Brezler (MR), James Brezler, and Sue Darr (John).

Samuel was a member of the St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, where he was a very active member in his parish and the parish school. Samuel enjoyed serving as a lunch volunteer to the children. He shared the value of love of country and remembering those deployed. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1314 in Bellefonte. With them he helped organize and lead monthly Breakfasts at the Knights, Annual Free Community Thanksgiving dinner, Fish fry dinners, Parish Picnic, and monthly Bingo. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion Post 867 in Pleasant Gap and the Bellefonte Elks Lodge #1094.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Belles Springs Golf Club. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Phillies and Penn State. Samuel also coached many sports teams through the years in basketball and baseball. A loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, his loved ones will forever cherish the memories that Samuel leaves behind.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 6-8:00 P.M., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. The wake service will immediately begin following the viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 10:00 A.M., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
