Obituary for Shirley L. Eckenroth
Shirley L. Eckenroth, 94, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Born on September 20, 1926, in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Maude (Rishel) Ardary. On June 27, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Charles “Bud” A. Eckenroth, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1997, after sharing over 51 years of marriage together.
Shirley was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. She dedicated her life to raising her family and taking care of her home.
She is survived by her three children, Ron Eckenroth (Laurie) of Boalsburg, Don Eckenroth, and Nancy Eckenroth, both of Bellefonte, and her furry canine companion, Maggie; three grandchildren, Randy Hulek (Christy), Kaly Payne (Tyler), and Austin Eckenroth (Kelsey), and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Lila Lutz, of Bellefonte, and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nancy, who was the twin to Lila, and daughter-in-law, Deborah Eckenroth.
Shirley was an avid Penn State, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She always put others before herself, and will be remembered as the devoted wife, caring mother, and doting grandmother that she was.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Clearfield County SPCA at 275 21st Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
