Obituary for Shirley L. Weaver

Shirley L. Weaver, 86, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on August 14, 1936, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Jacobs) Hurr. In Jacksonville, Florida, on February 15, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Leonard “Woody” P. Weaver, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 20, 2022, after sharing over 65 years of marriage together.

Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Jersey Shore High School. After high school, she went on to attend State Beautician School. She worked as a beautician for a short period, often at the Naval Air Stations where her husband was stationed. During her career, she decided to go back to school at South Hills Business School, graduating in 1982. Over the years, she also worked several retail jobs in the mall, where she loved to be around and get to chat with people.

She is survived by her children, Leonard P. Weaver, Jr. of Bellefonte, Chris Weaver of Pocono, Pennsylvania, and Shawn P. Weaver (Shawna) of Bellefonte; and three grandchildren, Nolan J. Weaver, Noah P. Weaver, and Nash F. Weaver, all of Bellefonte. Also surviving is a brother, David Hurr (Helen) of Franklin, PA, and sisters, Nancy Devanney (Jack) of Rochester, NY, and Barb White (Danny) of Williamsport.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Joseph J.R. Weaver.

Shirley was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellefonte. She enjoyed going for walks around Bellefonte and through Talleyrand Park. Seldomly was she ever seen without her contagious smile, as she treasured the little things in life. Shirley never met a stranger, as she was always eager to share a conversation, a laugh, or just a smile, with anyone she crossed paths with. More than anything, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
