Obituary

Thomas was born on July 6, 1929, at Stormstown, PA., son of John Thomas and Lyda Margaret Harshberger McKivison. His parents predeceased Thomas. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Janet Kelley, and two brothers, James Francis, and Charles John. Thomas is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Thomas graduated from Port Matilda High School, Class of 1947. Thomas retired in 1991 after 41 years of service with Weis Markets, Inc.

Thomas traveled extensively in Europe and visited Africa and South America. Thomas as a member of the Centre County Historical Society and the Boalsburg Heritage Museum. He enjoyed researching family history and the history of the old ore mining village of Scotia. Thomas also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.

He has a special bond with his niece, Donna; she would cook, clean, bake for him, and go out to eat with him often. He always looked forward to going to Donna’s for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He loved going to drives with Donna through the Valley to visit family, through Gatesburg, and through downtown State College on Christmas Day and New Years Day when no one else was around. When his health started to decline, Donna and Kimberly (“Kimmy”), his niece and great-niece, who he lovingly referred to as “his angels” were always by his side – whether it be taking him for drives, cooking, cleaning, or making him his favorite raisin filled cookies.

At his request, there will be no visitation and the funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family with Rev. Samuel Reese officiating. Burial will be in Grays Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Centre County Historical Library and Museum at 203 N. Allegheny Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
