John F. Gingery, 76, of Spring Mills, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born in Bellefonte on December 3, 1944, he was the son of the late Joe Gingery and Hazel (Dunlap) Gingery. Out of High School John joined the Navy. While in the Navy, he married his beloved wife, Nancy (Doland) Gingery of Bellefonte, who survives at home after sharing over 50 years of marriage together.

John was a 1964 graduate of Bellefonte High School, who then went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1965 until he was honorably discharged in 1970. John was employed at Penn State University for 30 years, from 1970 to 2000. His last twenty-one years at Penn State were at the Applied Research Laboratory, as a Warehouseman and Truck Driver.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by a sister, Vickie Gingery of Georgia, a son, James L. Gingery of Milroy, PA, a daughter, Michelle L. Ilgen of Spring Mills, PA, and three grandchildren, Kathryn L. Gingery of Centre Hall, PA, Tyler S. Ilgen of Centre Hall, PA, and Payton M. Ilgen of Spring Mills, PA.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Gingery of Missouri.

John had a passion for cars and spent many years restoring them and attending car shows. He also liked to do woodworking, making pieces of furniture for his wife and grandchildren. John loved the beach and enjoyed many vacations there with his family. He and his wife were also avid golfers, and both shared in enjoying that pastime together.

Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.

My deepest sympathy to the Gingery family for you loss. John was a friend, class mate, a Navy brother and someone who always had a smile and a warm greeting. He was an exceptional artist and always enjoyed drawing on a shirt for you. Fond memories will remain for a long time.
Friend and classmate,
